Description
Inspired by the rare and dramatic snowstorm that hit the Tucson metro in late February, 2019, I have done a hand-drawn digital painting of the desertscape covered in snow as the snow is coming down hard. The faint Santa Catalina Mountains can be seen in the distance, as snow covered saguaro cactus line the landscape. This scene is from the perspective of Saguaro National Park - East, near the foot of the Rincon Mountains.
Within the painting, I included some wildlife faring the elements. A small owl sits atop the arm of the cactus on the left, a parent javelina and baby javelina trudge through the snowy landscape, and three magic (litereal) snowbirds are in the top right corner.
I really enjoyed painting this one. Seeing snow in person in Tucson was such a rare event (though I was unable to photograph most of it due to having to work) so it inspired me to create imaginative scenes like this in my paintings.
