Description
This is a painterly work of art featuring the silhouettes of saguaro cacti and an ocotillo watching a beautiful, fiery Arizona sunset out in the Sonoran Desert. Hues of orange, red, and gold light up the sky with hints of blue peeking through.
The southwestern state of Arizona is known for its sunsets. It was my hope to convey the look and feel of such a sunset in this impressionist piece. Whenever there are clouds in the sky, particularly during the summer monsoon season, there's a good chance the sunset will be spectacular. Ever so fleeting, sunsets in Arizona are so radiant and colorful, and with an iconic saguaro cactus looking on, there is nothing else quite like it. The desert comes alive in fantastic color and harmony. For a moment, the world seems to stand still.
Interestingly enough, saguaro cacti only grow in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and parts of Mexico. But they are so unusual, and grand, they have become a symbol of not just the state but the whole southwest. Plentiful numbers of them can be seen in and around Phoenix and Tucson, and for many miles in between.
