I hoped to capture the essence of an Arizona sunset with this and a distinct feel of the fiery Southwest. A dramatic sun sets over the desert near Tucson, Arizona as seen from Saguaro National Park - East. This division of the park is near the Douglas Springs Trailhead at the foot of the Rincon Mountains which rise to the East of Tucson.

This sunset, seen during a warm December Day, perfectly embodies the boldness and brilliance of the Grand Canyon State in a special way to me. I was not expecting it, and was out hiking the trails of the area with camera in hand, when I saw the clouds moving in the west in such a way that it would be a good sunset. So I waited it out, hiked to a spot where I figured this towering Saguaro would offer a good silhouette for the sunset, and waited. I was not disappointed as I find this to be one of the grandest sunsets I have ever seen.
