Description
A barrel cactus full of needles casts a dramatic shadow on a winter day in the Sonoran Desert as seen in black and white. Taken in Saguaro National Park east of Tucson, Arizona, the low angle of the sun in winter produces dramatic lighting. Deep clouds fill the distant sky, casting ripples of shadows onto Mount Lemmon, the crown of the Santa Catalna Mountains. We also see a prickly pear cactus catching the sunlight up close and a tall saguaro cactus in the midground.
Winters in the American Southwest are generally warm and sunny, but the low angle of the sun and higher degree of moisture in the atmosphere make wintertime a very unique team to photograph these landscapes.
