Humphreys Peak of the San Francisco Peaks rises above the grasslands and forest of the Coconino Plateau Grasslands of northern Arizona. Big, puffy, cumulus clouds fill a deep blue sky on a spring day. Humphreys Peak, over 12,000 feet in elevation, is the highest point in the state of Arizona and more closely resembles peaks of the southern Rocky Mountains (which are hundreds of miles away) than that of the American Southwest, covered in pine trees with a granite, snow covered top. It is an ancient volcano and towers over the city of Flagstaff. It is easy to forget one is in Arizona in this alpine landscape.
About Chance Kafka
Tucson based photographer and artist Chance Kafka is a native of Laramie, Wyoming, and grew up in the small community of Wheatland, before returning to Laramie for college. He took an interest into photography at a young age, photographing clouds, sunsets, and landscapes. At age 17, he won 1st Place in the Platte County Fair photography competition in 3 out of 5 categories as the only entrant to win more than one category. Following this local success, he worked as a feature writer and photographer for the Platte County Record Times while still in high school.
