Description
A red flower emerges from the arm of a poky cholla plant found near Tucson, Arizona. Chollas are all over the Sonoran Desert of Southern Arizona and the American Southwest and can produce very bright and colorful floral blooms. This macro soft focus photograph highlights the bloom and surrounding needles on the cholla cactus' arm. The needles of these cholla plants are extremely sharp and appear fuzzy from far away. Up close, you can see the slight barbs on them. I have always felt the cholla bloom resembles a desert rose. They can be viewed up close all over the Tucson area. Either unit of Saguaro National Park is a great place to do so.
