Description
Devil's Tower, the crown of northeastern Wyoming, sits against sunset skies and a field of sunflowers, or cone flowers. The golden prairie meadow is ablaze beneath fiery skies. The Devil's Tower, also known as Bear Lodge, is a column of volcanic rock that juts into the sky near the Black Hills. Devil's Tower National Monument was the filming sight for sci-fi movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and is regionally famous in this overlap of the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain West. Devil's Tower also stands as a beautiful timeless landmark and symbol of the Cowboy State, Wyoming. The nearest city by Wyoming standards is Gillette - the tower is really quite remote. It is somewhat close to the small community of Sundance, which is the seat of Crook County.
