Description
Featuring Finger Rock north of Tucson, Arizona, rays of morning sunlight pour down into Finger Rock Canyon in the Santa Catalina Mountains in this newest painting. Springtime has arrived to the Sonoran Desert with a sense of warmth and renewal before the long, hot summer sets in. The Catalina Foothills are adorned in floral blooms and greenery. A saguaro cactus, ocotillo and other southwestern plant life overlook the glory of the morning scene.
Finger Rock is a prominent feature of the Pusch Ridge Wilderness of the Coronado National Forest that compromises much of the Catalinas, and can be seen from all over metro Tucson. Overlooking the Old Pueblo, the Finger Rock Trailhead area at the far northern end of Alvernon Way offers stunning, dramatic views such as this, and a trail that ascends Mount Kimball.
This is one of my favorite scenes to paint. This particular piece was completed as a commission in a square format.
