Description
Finger Rock and Mount Kimball rise above Tucson, Arizona in the glow of the late day evening sunlight. Shadows overtake the canyon below and the foothill as clouds fill the sky. This dramatic perspective is seen from the Finger Rock trailhead in the Catalina Foothills at the north end of Alvernon Way, which is a place I have gone to many times with my camera and also to get inspiration to paint. My favorite time to see this landscape is when light and shadow plays across the landscape, and there is a bit of haze and atmosphere showing the depth of this vista. It is my hope that I captured the aura of such a scene in this impressionistic painting.
The Saguaro Cactus and ocotillo are monarchs of the lush Sonoran Desert, and can be seen all over this southwestern landscape amid the rocks. Prickly pear dots this landscape as well. The valley that Tucson, AZ sits in is surrounded by 4 distinct mountain ranges in each direction, with the towering Santa Catalina Mountains and Mount Lemmon being the most prominent as they are just to north of the city.
