This cholla brings back so many memories, as plants often do. My late brother brought me one from out west. Love this. F/L.

Chance Kafka replied:

I am touched this elicited the memory of your brother. Thank you Randy!

Hi Chance, You have captured a wonderful image of one of natures most unusual species of Cactus, or is it Cacti? Anyway a great shot just the same! L/F.

Chance Kafka replied:

I think it's supposed to be cacti but I've heard it both ways. Thanks so much!!

Gorgeous! I love the focus on the detail in the foreground. You really need to submit this to American Desert Southwest so I can feature it! L/F (Glad you weren't wearing flip flops when you stepped on that...)

Chance Kafka replied:

Thank you! I think I was going to but forgot or might have been at the 24 hour limit. I will now! And yeah that would have been bad.. lol

I was just going to say, that cactus has a mean streak a mile wide! But Janet covered the topic for me :-)

Chance Kafka replied:

Lol thank you for the comment! It is mean indeed

You have to be careful as those thorns can give you what's called a dirty wound. Proper shoes and clothing can help. I have learned. Jerry is always concerned that I will fall face first into these various cactus, as I take up-close images. Clearing the cache did not seem to help. Usually when I upload images, they upload very fast. I went to Picacho Peak and have the beauty of the poppies and wildflowers to post. So I guess I will have to try on Sunday. Take care!

Chance Kafka replied:

Indeed! I wear shorts a lot so sometimes I pay for it 😂 I've heard Picacho and Catalina State Park look great right now, if I find time I might try to get some tomorrow. Thanks again for the comment and good luck uploading! It's probably this site..

Beautiful photography, Chance. Some cholla cactus are worse than others. The Teddy Bear Cholla or the Chain Fruit Cholla (both called Jumping Cholla Cactus), are the worst for that. Not that you want to get any cholla cactus attached to you. I was at Saguaro National Park-East on snow day, and the Teddy Bear Cholla got me. They were all over the ground and the snow was camouflaging them. The Staghorn, Walking Cane, and Buckhorn are not a problem in my desert yard, but have removed a lot of the Jumping Cholla (chain fruit) due to their long wicked, toothpick looking thorns, and they drop all over the ground and get very tall. You have done a beautiful job with this one, showcasing how lovely Saguaro National Park is. I love the Catalina Mountain range in the background, too. Well done! (P.S. was wondering if you had any issues uploading this evening, it's not letting me, saying my file is larger than 25 MB when it is only 6 MB. The file sizes are the same as always) LF

Chance Kafka replied:

Thanks so much for the kind words, Janet! I am glad you stumbled on this one and liked it! I stepped on one of these and got several pieces of cholla embedded in my shoes. Still pulling a few thorns out of my legs as well! I really appreciate it! And I haven't had any issues uploading. Maybe try clearing your cache and cookies and trying again? Perhaps if there is too much cache it can't upload but who knows. Sometimes the servers just don't like to work, I've never seen that issue but had others.
