Description
The silhouette of a cowboy and his horse over look the Grand Canyon seen at night. The Milky Way galaxy and nighttime stars adorn the sky as the Colorado River can be seen flowing through the sculpted landscape from Desert View Point along the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona.
This magical midnight scene combines elements of the American west and southwest in an impressionistic style to invoke a feeling of peace and tranquility. The Grand Canyon cuts between the Kaibab and Colorado Plateaus of a very remote part of northern Arizona. The closest town of any size is Flagstaff over an hour to the southeast, so the night skies at the park are some of the best in the US for seeing stars.
Included in this nocturne nighttime painting among the silhouettes of the horse and cowboy are the outlines of the distant cliffs and temples of the canyon, Kaibab limestone rock walls, and some pinyon pine trees, rocks and an agave plant soaking in the starlight.
~This painting was juried into the "Shock of the New West" exhibit and will be displayed, on sale, at the Tubac Center of the Arts in Tubac, Arizona from January 6th to February 16th, 2020.
