Artist's Description
Kokopelli stands amid the southwest desert landscape of Monument Valley National Monument on the Utah and Arizona border. The Milky Way galaxy and a night sky full of stars, a shooting star and bird serve as a magical, heavenly and divine backdrop within the Colorado Plateau as a quiet dirt road snakes through the valley. These particular buttes resemble mittens and are aptly named the Mittens.
Kokopelli the flute player is a spirit believed in Native American tradition to be a harbringer of fertility, mischief and rain. This painting is a fitting end to a series I have completed of Kokopelli across the Grand Canyon state on small canvas.
About Chance Kafka
Tucson based photographer and artist Chance Kafka is a native of Laramie, Wyoming, and grew up in the small community of Wheatland, before returning to Laramie for college. He took an interest into photography at a young age, photographing clouds, sunsets, and landscapes. At age 17, he won 1st Place in the Platte County Fair photography competition in 3 out of 5 categories as the only entrant to win more than one category. Following this local success, he worked as a feature writer and photographer for the Platte County Record Times while still in high school.
