I once took a guest in my new Corvette all the way around Mt. Wrightson and the Santa Ritas, Chance. I-19 To Nogales. Then to Patagonia, Sonoita, and back to Tucson. Wonderful 360 degree trip and view. I think it’s great that you appreciate these mountains as I do!

Chance Kafka replied:

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! I do love these mountains, and I've done that 360 trip twice now and it's my second favorite extended drive in Arizona! (First is US 60 through the Superstitions from Mesa to Globe. Many photos from that trip I should upload)

Artist's Description

Completely by hand, I have digitally painted Mount Wrightson, one of the tallest peaks of Southern Arizona, rising above Madera Canyon and adorned with a rainbow as the typical rains of the monsoon season have subsided. Prominently visible from Tucson and its suburban neighbors to the south, Sahuarita and Green Valley, and Amado and Tubac farhter south. This crown of the Santa Rita Mountains tops out at over 9,000 feet and its treeless peak is often referred to as "Baldy." It is backdropped by more storm clouds coming in, but for now, the late afternoon golden sunlight lights up the landscape as evening fast approaches.

In the foreground, plants classic to the Sonoran Desert including the Saguaro Cactus and Ocotillo are present. Monsoon season has just begun, and the desert floor is showing signs of lush greenery that comes with the rains.

Kokopelli, a spirit believed by Native Americans to be a harbinger of many things including rain, is standing atop a rock, pla...
