Description
This hand-drawn digital painting depicts Esterbrook Community Church and Laramie Peak just after sunset in southeastern Wyoming. The small community of Esterbrook lies just outside the northeastern flank of the rugged Laramie Mountains due south of Douglas, southwest of tiny Glendo, and northeast of Wheatland, Wyoming, accessible by dirt roads only.
Pink rain clouds and a waxing crescent moon fill the ambient sky on this brilliant summer evening above the quaint chapel. Laramie Peak rises to over 10,000 feet in elevation and can be seen from over 100 miles away in some directions. The very last glint of alpenglow can be seen illuminating its highest peaks. The Laramie Range in Wyoming is the easternmost extent of the North American Rocky Mountains. It was the first glimpse of the Rockies many emigrants caught when heading west during the 19th century. Laramie Peak towers above the rest of the range as a dominant fixture on the horizon of much of southeastern Wyoming. It serves as a perfect backrop to the Esterbrook Church, which also has a large window inside facing south toward the peak. During the short spring and summer seasons of Wyoming, the landscape can be very green and lush.
It was my hope that I conveyed the mood of a summer evening and tranquility of this special place. I appreciate you stopping to pay a visit to my art. This digital painting was a lot of fun to do!
