Description
The landscape of Grand Canyon National Park in northern Arizona was carved out over many, many, many years of erosion by weather, uplift, and the Colorado River, exposing countless layers of the rock. This image, taken from the South Rim Trail near Yavapai Point, looks out over the Granite Gorge (with Isis Temple on the far left) and shows just how textured, diverse and complex the canyon is. It is particularly beautiful and awe-inspiring in moody sunset light near dusk.
