Description
The McKale Center is home to the University of Arizona basketball teams on the U of A campus in Tucson. This historic arena played host to the Wildcats' men's basketball regular season opener against the NAU Lumberjacks before a large crowd on November 6, 2019. This panoramic view was taken during a media timeout from the southwest side of McKale looking toward the court (named for longtime national-title winning coach Lute Olson) as fans donning the school colors of red and blue fill the seats. The Wildcats' many championship banners hang from the rafter and a large video screen/scoreboard exemplifies the prestige of McKale. The hope around Tucson is that coach Sean Miller can build this very young team back into Pac 12 championship contention and make a run in the NCAA tournament after a letdown season in 2018-19.
Tucson does not have any major professional sports teams so it follows University of Arizona sports closely, and its men's basketball team tends to generate the most loyalty and intrigue in southern Arizona. Because of this, McKale center is regarded as having one of the best atmospheres in all of college basketball.
