Description
A nearly full moon rises over Cathedral Rock and Red Rock Crossing in Sedona, Arizona. Oak Creek flows through this pristine landscape, lined by various trees and cacti common to Northern Arizona. Late in the day, near sunset, golden hour light casts striking sunlight and shadows onto Cathedral Rock. Set against a deep blue sky, the red rocks, cliffs and canyons of Sedona come alive with warm color. I envision this painting to be in late summer or early fall.
Hidden in a valley along the Mogollon Rim, the village of Sedona in Coconino County, somewhat equidistant from Phoenix and the Grand Canyon, is a haven for spiritualists, tourists, photographers, and artists. In this impressionistic, painterly work of art, I hoped to capture the drama of golden hour light and the beauty of a rising desert moon.
Many believe in a vortex of energy being particularly strong along the waters of Oak Creek, right at this crossing. Whatever one may believe, the diversity and striking, bold landscapes of Arizona can't be beat. The Sedona area is one of the most famous and scenic areas in the American Southwest and must be experienced in person to fully appreciate the magnificence of it, but I hope this painting gives you a good taste of it. If you chose to support an independent artist and purchase a print, I hope you feel a semblance of peace as if you were right there taking it all in.
