Description
I have painted a radiant summer sunset at Picacho Peak of Southern Arizona, Electric, swirling storm clouds and crepuscular rays from the setting sun light up the Sonoran Desert landscape between Tucson and Phoenix. Saguaro cacti, ocotillos, a barrel cactus, and creosote bushes catch the last glint of golden hour light at the end of a monsoon day.
Picacho Peak is a steep monolith, apart of the Picacho Mountains, near the town of Eloy that seems to rise out of nowhere. It is readily visible from the I-10 freeway northwest of Marana, and has a state park in which visitors can drive in a ring around this interesting mountain. It is perhaps the most memorable landmark for visitors travelling through the state on this interstate highway. It is said that the farthest west Civil War battle took place in the pass just to the north of the peak.
It was my hope to convey the wild and vibrant feel of Arizona's southwestern landscapes in the setting sun.

Your work is getting more and more dimensional, Chance. Picacho Peak’s light and shadow is why. Also your use of subtle light is excellent here...,fav / like
