Artist's Description
With acrylic on canvas, I have painted a ranch road - a dirt path crossing a cattle guard, traversing the rolling hills and headed toward a snow covered mountain range. A lone tree that has long lost its leaves basks in the low sunlight of winter.
This work is something I just kind of went along with as I went, as I do with many. It is one of isolation and hardiness (one tree on its own, managing to stand among the elements), desolation and cold (snow and winter)- but also life and light (bright sunlight and pair of birds) - and all of these elements translate into a harmonious landscape. As I have recently really gotten into painting, I find this to be among my favorite works I have done. It is simple but complex. I imagined this scene taking place in Wyoming - where a scene like this would be very common - and feel the elements I went for represent the state well.
About Chance Kafka
Tucson based photographer and artist Chance Kafka is a native of Laramie, Wyoming, and grew up in the small community of Wheatland, before returning to Laramie for college. He took an interest into photography at a young age, photographing clouds, sunsets, and landscapes. At age 17, he won 1st Place in the Platte County Fair photography competition in 3 out of 5 categories as the only entrant to win more than one category. Following this local success, he worked as a feature writer and photographer for the Platte County Record Times while still in high school.
