Description
The last painting of my recent watercolor series features the iconic San Xavier Mission del Bac, a Catholic church in Spanish architectural style found just south of the city of Tucson, Arizona. Off the beaten path of the sidewalk leading to the main doors, a mother with long black hair and son are seen walking toward the church, holding his hand with motherly love. Hazy palm trees and the unique bell towers adorned with crucifixes are backropped by colorful late day sunset skies.
As architecture, the Mission represents the various cultures of the region - European, Hispanic, and Indigenous, as does much of the city of Tucson and outlying area. This is my impressionistic interpretation of one of Tucson's most recognizable places. Culturally, it is an important place of worship for this who practice Catholicism.
