Description
The Santa Rita Mountains and Elephant Head Monolith are cast in winter light as the tallest peak, Mount Wrightson, is shrouded in a snow storm. The Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona seldom sees snow fall, but the dramatic, moody clouds make for great landscape photography. The high peaks overlook the Santa Cruz river valley, including the communities of Tubac, Green Valley, Sahuarita, and the Tucson metro area.
Sunlight peeks through the clouds to illuminate the Elephant Head Monolith. In the foreground, we see cholla plants and ocotillos. The American Southwest has a great variety of plant life, much of which thrives year-round.
