The bright core of the Milky Way Galaxy rises over Mica Mountain of the Rincon Mountains east of Tucson, Arizona. These Mountains are contained within Saguaro National Park and home to many Saguaros, the monarchs of the Sonoran Desert.

This brilliant scene can be seen during Milky Way season (mainly summer) from many places in rural Pima County, Arizona and the Southwest. There can't be many places better to see all the stars, galaxies and planets in America than the Southwest due to the dark night skies. The dark skies are really not so dark once you look and see how bright they really are - it truly is heavenly. A faint glow from the city of Tucson lights up the Rincon Mountains. I truly find stars to be inspirational, hopeful, and instill a sense of wonder. The very bright object in this skyscape among the millions of stars is Juptiter, which of course is the largest planet in our solar system/

Tucson based photographer and artist Chance Kafka is a native of Laramie, Wyoming, and grew up in the small community of Wheatland, before returning to Laramie for college. He took an interest into photography at a young age, photographing clouds, sunsets, and landscapes. At age 17, he won 1st Place in the Platte County Fair photography competition in 3 out of 5 categories as the only entrant to win more than one category. Following this local success, he worked as a feature writer and photographer for the Platte County Record Times while still in high school.
