Description
The mighty Superstition Mountains are seen during a colorful sunrise near Apache Junction, Arizona. Rising dramatically to the east of the Phoenix Metro, the Superstitions are supposedly home to a legendary goldmine that many have died trying to find. These jagged, rugged peaks backdrop a lush Sonoran Desert landscape consisting of the famous Saguaro Cactus and ocotillos. A gold band of light fills the horizon at dawn in the cool early morning hours, as dramatic red, purple and blue clouds fill the sky at day break, filtering the light from the soon that is soon to rise. Twilight is one of the best times to view the desert, and I hoped to convey the stillness, color and peace of an Arizona morning in this painterly, impressionistic piece. This view can be seen from the Apache Trail near Lost Dutchman State Park.
