Description
I have painted a pretty, dramatic sunset over the Tucson Mountains as what would be seen from Saguaro National Park east of Tucson, Arizona. The glow of the horizon and atmosphere in this impressionistic painting show the fire of these Sonoran Desert skies. Looking west, beyond the silhouettes of the mighty Saguaro Cacti and ocotillo plants, one can see Cat Mountain, A Mountain (also known as Sentinel Peak, with the Block A, to commemorate the University of Arizona), the buildings of downtown Tucson, Tumamoc Hill, and Wasson Peak way off in the distance. I took a bit of geometric liberty to include them all in this painting.
Some of the best sunsets of Arizona occur during the monsoon season rains. As the onset of summer has arrived, so soon will the monsoon and these sunsets in their splendor. There is nothing like a sky lit up in gold, red, orange and purple with distant peaks and a Saguaro in the foreground.
I did this quick painting for a friend who is leaving Tucson as a momento for the scenery here.
