Artist's Description
Window Peak of the Santa Catalina Mountains steals the show in my newest southwest landscape painting. Also known as Ventana Peak, this craggy, rocky mountain rises above Ventana Canyon to the north of Tucson, Arizona during a moody, glowing monsoon season sunset. The green lushness of the Sonoran Desert and a couple of saguaro cacti look on as the last light of day hits the "Wonderland of Rocks" area at the peaks of this mighty mountain. The desert vegetation, including mesquite trees, palo verdes, and cresotoe bushes, is green from recent rain. A glimpse of Mount Kimball is visible on the left.
The Catalina Foothills afford unparalleled views of the Pusch Ridge Wilderness, which is a chain of peaks on the southwestern flank of the Catalina Mountains and are the most prominent peaks seen from Tucson. About Chance Kafka
Tucson based photographer and artist Chance Kafka is a native of Laramie, Wyoming, and grew up in the small community of Wheatland, before returning to Laramie for college. He took an interest into photography at a young age, photographing clouds, sunsets, and landscapes. At age 17, he won 1st Place in the Platte County Fair photography competition in 3 out of 5 categories as the only entrant to win more than one category. Following this local success, he worked as a feature writer and photographer for the Platte County Record Times while still in high school.
