An artist is seen working on a plen air painting of the Grand Canyon in Arizona amid the alpenglow of twilight. Cotton candy pink clouds float in the sky just after a beautiful sunset as deep blue shadow settles into the gorges beneath the temples of the Canyon. This southwestern desert landscape is one of the most iconic and complex in the world and a challenge to paint. Pinyon and pine trees line the South Rim just off the Desert View drive that offers some of the most popular views of the canyon. The Black Granite Gorge carved by the Colorado River can be seen in the distance. The Colorado Plateau is a large area in the American Southwest, with few populated areas (Flagstaff in Coconino County being one of them), allowing for some of the most pristine landscape and nature viewing in the US with its dramatic vistas and iconic landscapes.

About Chance Kafka
Tucson based photographer and artist Chance Kafka is a native of Laramie, Wyoming, and grew up in the small community of Wheatland, before returning to Laramie for college. He took an interest into photography at a young age, photographing clouds, sunsets, and landscapes. At age 17, he won 1st Place in the Platte County Fair photography competition in 3 out of 5 categories as the only entrant to win more than one category. Following this local success, he worked as a feature writer and photographer for the Platte County Record Times while still in high school. His articles and feature photos garnered him acclaim across the region which inspired him to pursue journalism as a degree in college. Chance served as a teaching assistant for a...
