Description
The famous John Moulton Barn of the rustic Mormon Row Historic District in Jackson Hole of northwestern Wyoming is backdropped by the Tetons Range during a radiant summer sunset. Grand Teton is the tallest peak of what is known as the Cathedral Group. The five peaks making up the group include Nez Perce Peak, Middle Teton, Grand Teton, Mount Owen, and Teewinot Mountain. These vertical spires of alpine granite are Wyoming's most famous mountain range and one of the most distinctive in the world. The sun in this painting is in a saddle between Owen and Teewinot.
The Moulton Barn backdropped by the Tetons is one of the most iconic and recognizable American western landscape scenes in the entire world. Many tourists, photographers, and artists attempt to capture this scene. Yet, I have rarely seen it depicted at sunset, so I decided to do just that. I included beet red-upper clouds which are common in Wyoming, especially when there is wind. Recent summer thunderstorms created a bit of atmospheric mist, which is caused by the warm sun heating up wet ground. The glowing last light of day catches the fence and edges of the barn.
I hope my painterly, impressionistic artwork takes you to Grand Teton National Park to soak in a fantastic Wyoming sunset and its ethereal glow.
