Description

Grand Canyon Golden Hour features Vishnu Temple and the rocks of Mather Point at sunset, seen from the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Stormy, moody clouds overtake the horizon at sunset. Much of the canyon is seen in rich blue shadow, but glints of sunlight strike Vishnu, O'Neill Butte just below, and the foreground rocks.

I opted for my usual impressionistic style in this small, square painting, relying on a bold use of color to convey a dramatic yet serene mood. The Grand Canyon is a spectacular place to watch the sun set as the landforms take on such personalities. I also went for a slight vignette effect in the lower depths to add to the mood and mystery of this scene. This small painting was a lot of fun.
