Title
Last Light of the Grand Canyon
Artist
Chance Kafka
Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
The last light of a cloudy day strikes the temples of Grand Canyon as seen from Moran Point at Grand Canyon National Park in northern Arizona. This place is truly one of the wonders of the world.
The Colorado River has cut through the Colorado Plateau for millions of years to carve out this amazing place. This painting is inspired from a photograph I took during my lone visit to the south rim. When I went to this particular point, everything was in deep shadow except for a glint of sunlight on the temples far out in the canyon and some cloud tops, just as it is in this impressionist piece. The canyon is really the most incredible place in the American southwest in my view, and probably the entire USA.
I also felt compelled to paint this in oils. I almost exclusively paint in acrylics but I felt up to a different challenge.

Chance Kafka replied:
Indeed Jerry. Not my favorite medium, but it worked well for the shadowy mood and bringing out the last light here!
