Chance Kafka
Medium
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Description
Kokopelli is seen near Bell Rock, a prominent fixture of the Red Rock region of Sedona, Arizona just outside of Oak Creek Village. It is prominently visible and believed by some to be a vortex of energy, and perfectly exemplifies the unique landscape of the area, which straddles Coconino and Yavapai counties. Puffy, light clouds float across an afternoon blue sky as a bird flies by overhead.
Kokopelli, a flute player, is a spirit in Native American traditions that is a harbringer or mischief, fertility and rain. He is seen here amid the grass, boulders and rocky reddish dirt that comprise this Colorado Plateau landscape, and is a timeless symbol of the desert and American Southwest. This is part of ongoing series of Kokopelli paintings featuring notable Arizona landscapes on small canvas.
