Description

The Finger Rock Trail area north of Tucson, Arizona is seen blanketed in snow during a beautiful winter sunset. Snow is extremely rare in the Sonoran Desert, but does happen from time to time. While normally it happens overnight and is melted by mid-morning, it decided to stick around long enough in my imagination for me to paint it in the late afternoon.

The Finger Rock rock formation and Mount Kimball can be seen rising above a bank of icy fog. A Saguaro Cactus catches the last light of day on this freezing day. Similar to most paintings I do with snow, the birds are actually magic snow birds. The rut of the Finger Rock Trail is visible in the mid foreground, and some prickly pear cacti van be seen trying to emerge from the ice.

This impressionistic landscape painting would be a perfect purchase for Christmas this holiday season! I speed-challenged myself to paint this in one hour. It ended up being 72 minutes, and I recorded it. I will eventually post a time-lapse me painting this scene.
